"Procrastination is the fear of success"

"Procrastination is the fear of success". This is what my fortune cookie read tonight. Let me back up about a year. In June of 2009 I decided enough was enough and really yearned to do something about my weight, and health in general. I had always been an active person, but never really cared about my nutrition or strength training. After watching countless home-fitness infommercials and hearing Tommy Mygrant continuously tell me "I don't call it P90X, I call it P-Lifetime X!" I decided to suck it up and spend the money and purchase P90X, along with an order of Shakeology, from a good freind who was a Beachbody Coach.

I soon started using the Shakeology and was extremely excited to start P90X. As I read through the literature included with the workout I came across the section about the "Fit Test". "Fit Test?" I questioned. They include a test to let you know if you are in good enough shape to start the workouts. Needless to say, I did not do good. After I took the test I was completely intimidated to start the 90-day commitment...and I didn't even try!

A few months had gone by, and as each day passed I would find myself pulling out the discs and pondering whether or not I should give it a try. I would say to myself "well, I didn't pass the test...so I probably should wait." Another month had gone by and it was my day for weigh in. I shuffled onto the scale wondering whether or not these shakes were doing anything. To my surprise I had lost a substantial amount of weight, close to 20lbs, and was blown away. I finally decided to commit to taking a look at the workouts in P90X.

A week later I was 7 days into my 90-day commitment and completely blown away by the fact I had procrastinated for months and could have actually been finishing my commitment! The thing that made me most mad, throughout each workout, Tony re-assures you "Do your best, and forget the rest!" It was okay to modify...it was OKAY TO MODIFY!!! If I had only told myself this from the beginning!

My point being, is that no matter where you are with your fitness level, it is okay to modify it. Did you hear me "IT IS OKAY TO MODIFY YOUR WORKOUT!" I have had so many people ask about P90X or other Beachbody programs, then tell me they can't do it because of a hip problem, or knee, or back. Let me tell you something, there is actually a P90X graduate in some of the exercises who has a prosthetic leg...yes a prosthetic leg! Tell me that's not motivating! I felt like an ass when I saw this. Oh...poor me.

As some of you know, about a solid month into my commitment, I recently suffered a horrific accident that nearly cost me my leg. I had to undergo major surgery and replace numerous ligaments in my knee (amongst other damage)...and am still having problems with it. I decided today that I'm just not happy when I watch those P90X commercials and hearing all of those inspiring stories. I had once again been telling myself "I just can't do it with my knee like this." Sorry John, you're wrong. Modification is okay...and I will keep reminding myself of this as I embark on my 90 day journey with P90X once again.

Thank you once again to all of those who have given me my motivation and inspired me to do this not just for me, but more importantly for my family!
